Totally Exotic, Peaceful, and Relaxed.

I do not know how they put it all together, but the gardens, artwork, colors, and handcrafted care that went into the Bali House is spectacular. The photos are beautiful, but you really do not know a place until you see it in living color. The views are my favorite which are the lovely views of the ocean, coconut trees, and lush tropical vegetation. The Coqui frogs singing at night are mesmerizing, and make the night air alive with joy. The bed is so comfie and cozy that you just want to luxuriate...and why not? We are on vacation, and luxuriate we did. The terrace overlooking the ocean with high end wicker furniture is a lovely place to layout and read a book. Hot tub completes the luxury. All is well at the Bali House, and delivers mor than promised, with a warm ALOHA greeting from Owners Tim and Illani. MAHALO and bravo!

The perfect ending to an AWESOME Vacation!

To say that no detail was overlooked would be an understatement! Everything was as advertised and more. When we got there our guest greeted us with Aloha! and was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We felt at ease and the vibe was exotic and relaxed at the same time. The cottage reminded us of are many trips throughout East Asia especially Bali. The area is lush, tropical sunny during the days. The open concept living area below is Amazing, relaxing and cozy! We loved dining below then going into our own private Hot Tub. When the night was over to lay on the super plush bed... we haven't slept that good in years! I would recommend this place to anyone and we have already made plans to return here in 6 months! Thank you sooo much Ili & Tim!

Romantic and Magical getaway at the Bali House

The Bali House and Bail Cottage are truly magical places. Last year we stayed at the Bali Cottage and tried to book it again as soon as we got home, but it was already booked. Luckily the Bali House was newly available to rent, so we booked it. We didn' think we would ever find a place as romantic and magical as the Bali Cottage with its open-air kitchen, direct ocean views, and secret garden spaces tucked throughout its own private grounds, but the Bali House was even more enchanting and delightful.

The house is an architectural marvel, being constructed of 3 pods imported from Bali. There are multiple levels, making the house seem much bigger and really cool! Also the beamed ceilings (the underside of the Bail roofs) soar above the rooms in a dramatic way. The house is very well equipped and has all the comforts of a real home. The stone grotto-style shower with rainfall shower head is amazing! There is also a huge screened-in bonus room with canopy bed and its own sitting and dining areas. The master bedroom in the main house has its own deck with ocean-front views. The gardens are well planted with lots of blooming and tropical plants, creating separate private garden areas that give you total privacy from your neighbors. The hot tub is great.

Our second time here was as amazing as the first. We were greeted by the owner Iliahi, with a hug and the aloha spirit that you only experience in Hawaii. You can feel the magic the minute you arrive at the Bali House. This is a real gem, and when you get here you want to stay forever. We are already looking forward to our next visit! Mahalo, Ili and Tim for sharing your home with us.

Never have we stayed in a place so beautiful. Iliahi and Tim were kind and gracious hosts, the view was incredible and the house was down-right AMAZING. i want to keep this a secret from 'tourist hawaii' for a reason... ITS TOO GOOD! private, serene, and honest in its Puna-bounty. We hope to return one day

missing it already from Portland, OR...

thanks ili and tim

This place is FANTASTIC!!!  What a perfect getaway from it all.  Across from the Ocean, Great Tradewinds, Beautiful Ocean sounds.  Not to mention the night music (Coqui frogs) that lulls you to sleep.  This place is romantic as all getout.

It would have been great to spend more time here but with "Merrie Monarch" in town, it was booked up.

See you next year!

Our time at your wonderful cottage has brought back the romance into our lives, we will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this Oct 25th and this place has started it off in fine style.

I love the coqui frogs in the evening with the waves crashing on the rocks below.

My husband loved the layed back atmosphere and he even took to wearing a "man skirt" (sarong) while down on your beautiful black sand beach.

We we're only able to spend one night here at The Bali Cottage

but it was the most romantic night.  The stars were

unbelievable and the frogs sang us to sleep.  This is the most

beautiful ocean front cottage ever.  For a newly engaged couple

Our stay at the Bali Cottage was very relaxing and comfortable.  Mahalo for the warm Hawaiian Welcome!  We loved sitting on the Lanai watching spinner dolphins during the day and listening to the coqui frogs at night.  They sound like our "peepers" at home that are just starting to peep announcing the arrival of spring.  The hot tub was very relaxing after a long day visiting the Volcano

The sun is dancing on the water this morning, the last of our three night stay.  It is "Post Card Perfect".  We have been privileged to have visited all the Islands but this is our favorite and our first time time to have been on this side.  We have had a wonderful time exploring.  The best part has been after full days to come home to the serenity of the cottage.  We so appreciate the lushness of our surrounding, the pounding of the surf, the chattering of the birds.  As gracious hosts your have anticipated our every need.  You have created a very romantic hideaway!  We thank you!

Thank you so very much for a moment in Paradise.  We love the cottage, cooking in the lanai and sitting on the balcony overlooking the ocean while we ate.

Thank you for the book of activities, which led us to the Secret beach and the Maku'u Farmers Market.

We are very sad to leave, but the other side of the island is calling.  Hopefully we'll be back again soon!

This has been the best Anniversary vacation we've EVER been on! Thank you for all of your advice on places to go.

The Lava Boat tour is awesome, even if you get seasick like we do Dramamine works fine!

Your home is beautiful & the guest house is wonderful, you have thought of everything!

The singing frogs are great at night with the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. We want to share that the Zipline over UmaUma Falls was glorius even in the rain you have to try it!!! It's exhilerating.

We went on the "Captain Zodiac Snorkel adventure" to Captain Cook Monument which was also fun, everyone should do that on this island. Drive up 137 also and stop at all the's spectacular, Anyhow the breakfast was delicious everyone has to try it.

I could write more but, the most important thing is your amazing hospitality...Mahalo!

Frogs chirping at night is certainly a departure from the sounds of city living. Instead of car horns and people, we've heard the crashing of waves and swaying of palm trees.

At first, our stay at the Bali Cottage was intimidating due to the beauty, but now as we write this on our third night here, we've begun to feel like locals.

By now we've learned not to take certain luxuries only found here for granted. Wether it be looking up at a star filled sky as opposed to only seeing a select few and the moon - or being able to hike down a black rock trail to a majestic black sand beach. We definitely recommend Melvin's Lava Boat tour (though we're sure you've heard)-it's one of the most amazing things we've seen. Take a trip down to the Tide pools and see how the locals cool off. If you didn't buy food to cook, take a trip into Pahoa, and dine at Kaleo's. Thanks to Janet for easing us into paradise living and showiing us an unforgettable few days, love.

We spent 7 lovely nights at the Bali Cottage in Sept/Oct of 2010 and it was wonderful! Having never stayed at a vacation rental before, Janet made the experience warm and welcoming. We're both somewhat nervous travellers so having Janet close by (but not too close, if you know what I mean ;)) made us feel safe and comfy. Her knowledge of the area was very helpful - I'm not sure we would have found all the little playgrounds she led us to (The Kapoho tidepools being my personal favourite). The cottage was very cozy and romantic. We were lucky to have a taste of sunshine AND jungle rain - what I would call a storm but was likely just a regular rain shower. We made friends with the geckos and whiled away the time enjoying the sunrise from bed and ocean views from the sundeck. Wishing I were there right now... thank you Janet!

The Big Island has been a blast and your little guest house has been a welcome part of the tapestry of memories contained in this "vacation" we used the snorkel gear to visit the Tide Pools. Go out to the other side of the sign 100yrds opposite the parking area for a DEEP hole. The best part of this leg of our journey was the Lava Walk. We found a local to take us on the tour and we got close. Closer than is probably safe...WOW! Go see the lava flow up close and personal. Don't forget to check out Uncle Roberts Kava/Awa Bar in Kalapana...Will keep you entertained-try the Kava.

Everything is the same, the fog says "We are fog and we fly by dissolving like ephemera", and the leaves say "We are leaves and we jiggle in the wind, that's all, we come and go, grow and fall" – Even the paper bags in my garbage pit say "We are man-transformed paper bags made out of wood pulp, we are kinda proud of being paper bags as long as that will be possible, but we'll be mush again with our sisters the leaves come rainy season" – The tree stumps say "We are tree stumps torn out of the ground by men, sometimes by wind, we have big tendrils full of earth that drink out of the earth" – Men say "We are men, we pull out tree stumps, we make paper bags, we think wise thoughts, we make lunch, we look around, we make a great effort to realize everything is the same" – While the sand says "We are sand, we already know," and the sea says "We are always come and go, fall and plosh" – The empty blue sky of space says "All this comes back to me, then goes again, and comes back again, then goes again, and I don't care, it still belongs to me" – The blue sky adds "Don't call me eternity, call me God if you like, all of you talkers are in paradise: the leaf is paradise, the tree stump is paradise, the paper bag is paradise, the man is paradise, the sand is paradise, the sea is paradise, the man is paradise, the fog is paradise"

Thank you so much for creating this wonderful paradise for us to visit. We have have had an AMAZING time here on the Big Island. Everyone we have met has been so nice and easy to talk to. The sights are so dreamy! We had a wonderful time snorkeling where you showd us. We saw a beautiful Sea Turtle! The beach across the street is so serene and peaceful and RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!!! We had an incredible adventure over the lava fields and saw the lava pouring into the sea. The breakfasts you serve are so delicious and have been a fun part of getting up in the morning. The Bali Cottage itself is our Dream Home. We have been pretending that it is our house and are sad to have to leave. An open air kitchen just isn't possible where we live due to climate and bugs. I have had so much fun cooking with my love (wife) in the beautiful breeze. This has been an unforgettable experience that we will cherish as my wife and I start our new life together! The perfect beginning to our life journey. Mahalo and much love!

This place, This Perfect Bali Cottage, is indeed a DREAM come to life! I did not know such BEAUTIFUL DWELLINGS existed. The Sea view & Breezes on the Lanai, the amazing tropical garden; Bali Cottage.....You had me at HELLO!

We loved Kehena Beach and all that the area had to offer.  After seeing the picutres and hearing the stories we have a ton of friends and family that will be coming your way.

Thank you again for the wonderful breakfasts and all the directions to the specail places the Big Island has to offer!

Thank you Janet & Tim!

The Black Sand Beach just afternoon is a truly magical place, the dead tree in the middle, with it's gnarled root system exposed over 6 feet above the sand adds a sureal touch! We highly recommend the little restaurant at the very end of route 137 (turn right outside the gate and keep going straight!) Plus the Kava/Kawa/Awa bar in the evening is another hidden treasure.

Last night the stars were fantastic & we hit the Hot Tub with a glass of Red Wine and simply marvelled at the night sky!

Mahalo!   This was an amazing experience and a wonderfull honeymoon.  We were so busy the first few days visiting all the sites that we actually didn't really go to the beach! 8)  But it was a beautiful cottage, and the pictures do no justice in comparison to actually being here.  We woke up in the morning to go sit on the rocks and watch the dolphins which was so peaceful!  I wish we would have been able to get to know you guys a little more, but unfortunatly I got sick, and spent much of the last few days in bed.  Anywhere else I would have been very upset for getting sick, but being able to hear the waves and the frogs sing was so relaxing!  Thank you guys for such a great honeymoon, we look forward to returning!  Mahalo!        Las Vegas, NV

Thanks to you guys, we have lost track of the days.

All the problems of the world have seem to fade into the distance. My blood pressure is at peace at the Bali Cottage as is the rest of my spirit.

We knew this would be a great place but until we arrived and were greeted by Janet our host with a smile and necklace ( Lei ) of welcome, did  I (we) start understanding what we found.

This is such a happy place and the two of you make it  possible. I could keep on about the peace we found here but others have said it better then I can.

They said "to everything there is a beginning and end". We choose to think this is just a beginning.

I am so sad to eventually have to leave! I had such a great time on the Island because the cottage has been so amazing. What a beautiful and peaceful piece of land you guys have created! I'm looking forward to coming back to you.

Thank you and Aloha,
